About Us + The Blog

Sam

I'm 28 years old and I've lived in Brooklyn (Williamsburg) since the end of 2011. Over the last year or so I've realized how important knowing my way around the kitchen is. The ability to cook meals beyond the basic (Kraft mac and cheese, oatmeal, chicken nuggets) adds a really enjoyable dynamic to life. Having a delicious meal that you work to create is satisfying on a few different levels, not to mention a good way to impress friends and family. While I do have a full-time job, like many New Yorkers, I try to find ways to save a few bucks here and there, and cooking definitely enables that. I'm also super lucky to be sharing my cooking experiences with An who has a few things to say below...

...Thanks Sam. I'm a 23 year old recent college grad and have had a passion for cooking and food for a long time. Living in New York for the past 4 years has inspired me to be resourceful and creative with my meals, but, in the past, that meant eating a lot of avocado toast, fried eggs and sautéed frozen spinach. Delicious and relatively healthy, but not too exciting. I started cooking every week for my family when I took a break from school between my 2nd and 3rd years at NYU. I had plenty of time on my hands to plan elaborate, multi-course meals. Now, back in the city, I'm trying to bring back some of that cooking fire and find the time to cook thoughtful, wholesome food.

The Blog

This blog is a journal in which we share our thoughts (before and after each meal), the recipes and instructions, as well as the costs. We blog as we cook and find meals that excite us and fit the criteria of: healthy, simple (but creative), affordable, and tasty. We're as honest as possible and not afraid to share our failures along with successes. We define healthy as whole, organic (when possible), and unprocessed foods and we do our best to procure ingredients with those characteristics. Also, we are lucky that in NYC there are tons of interesting places to food shop so we try and hit everything from the mainstream to the mom and pop stores. Hopefully as you read you'll be inspired to share your comments and find some recipes you like to cook yourself!
